We bought the jetty!

Dollar that bought the jetty.jpg

At 11am on Wednesday 6 November 2019, Governors Bay Jetty Restoration Trust handed over a dollar to deputy mayor Andrew Turner, thus completing the transaction to buy the jetty.

By owning the jetty, the Trust is fully in control of the restoration process, including procurement, planning, choice of materials (within the constraints of building consent to ensure strength and durability), and jolly well getting the job done.

We are now ready to start removing the handrails and toe boards for reuse or sale. After that, our goal is to start construction (funds, procurement, access, and fate permitting) in February or March 2020.

Now that the Trust owns the jetty, going onto it is strictly prohibited except for the volunteers working on it with safety measures in place. This is especially so once the handrails are no longer there. You'll notice changes in signage and fencing over the coming months.

We have further announcements up our sleeve and a large chunk of money to raise. Things are about to get busy. As well as our sponsor a plank campaign, we have T-shirts and calendars for sale, and are in the process of organising a music festival (7 March).

There are lots of ways to help save the jetty and the more people who help, the sooner it’ll reopen.
